The Nigerian entertainment industry is filled with not just super amazing talents but a lot of well-educated stars.

Education, in a country like Nigeria, is seen as the most important aspect of a person, this is why it is not a surprise that many of our celebrities went through school, but the surprise is that some of them studied courses that are quite different from their present career, some even practiced for a while before moving into the entertainment sector, to build a career in their passion.

For this piece, we will be looking at those celebs in particular, who studied law while in the university. These celebrities have not only become successful in the different spheres of entertainment but have become household names.

Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD)

Nollywood veteran actor, RMD, first got his first degree in Theatre Arts from the university. In 1997, RMD returned to the university to study law at the University of Lagos to fulfill his mother’s wish for him to be a lawyer. He graduated in 2004.

Femi Adebayo

Femi Adebayo is an actor, film producer and a proprietor of a school of art in Ibadan, He is the son of veteran Yoruba actor, Otunba Adebayo Salami so for him, acting runs in his vein.

Femi has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Ilorin, Kwara state. He later went ahead to earn a Master’s of Degree in law, he had started acting before he went to the university.

After graduation, Femi practiced law for some years specializing in estate and property law before acting got a better part of him.

Funke Akindele

Actress and film producer, Funke Akindele first studied Mass Communication and obtained an Ordinary National Diploma in it from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnics, Ogun state.

She later went to the University of Lagos to study Law, but never tried going to the Law School as she knew what she wanted to be before graduation.

Her first appearance on television drama was in ‘I Need to Know’ as a teenager.

Kemi Adetiba

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

Wazobia FM first lady and actress, Omotunde Adebowale Davies popularly known as Lolo 1 is a graduate of Lagos State University, Ojo where she studied Law.

She practiced the law profession for three years before she left her wig and gown to be an on-air-personality.

She roks the airwaves as the Lolo1 on popular Pidgin English speaking radio station, Wazobia FM and she is also popular in the film industry for her hilarious role as ‘Adaku’ in Funke Akindele’s comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary.

Omawumi Megbele whose stage name is simply Omawunmi is a songwriter and actress. She graduated from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo state where she studied law in 2005.

She worked briefly at her brother’s law firm, O.S Megbele and Associates before she contesting for the Idols West Africa in 2007.

Omawumi embraced entertainment through her participating in West African Idols where she emerged as the first runner up and ever since she has embraced music and also has some acting credits.

Kelechi Amadi Obi

Kelechi Amadi-Obi, he is a Nigerian celebrity photographer, an artist, and painter, he is also the publisher of Mania Magazine. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1992 and was called to bar in 1994.

Amadi-Obi, when asked why he dumped law for photography, in an interview with Onebello, a fashion magazine said the choice wasn’t between photography and law, but between photography and art. He said he had always been an artist right from childhood.
