Here are 9 celebs who might be going from A-list to C-list very quickly in 2018.
Staying relevant in today’s fast-paced celebrity society is a full-time job — just ask Kim Kardashian. Fame is often fleeting and just because you have a ton of fans does not mean you won’t be tossed out in the street the second you make a big mistake. It’s like Heidi Klum always says on Project Runway, “One day you’re in and the next, you’re out.”
Celebrities can lose their fame for a variety of reasons—ranging from personal issues that get out of hand, relationships scandals, and insensitive remarks to lawsuits. When you lose the public’s love, you’re pretty much out of luck.
People were all about supporting “Crazy Kanye” when he was making hit records, but now that he’s making controversial claims like, “slavery is a choice,” he is losing his fan base — and fast. Jennifer Lawrence was once the most-beloved, quirky girl on the red carpet, but now, people are starting to think that she is not the innocent, food-loving girl that she claims to be.
When TMZ broke the news that Tristan Thompson was sneaking around behind his pregnant girlfriend's back with other women right before she was about to give birth to their daughter, True, the public was totally Team Khloe Kardashian. In fact, her fans flooded his Instagram account with hilariously creative comments to let him know just how much of a jerk they all thought that he was. One user wrote, "I hope every time you have to go to the bathroom, there's no toilet paper," while another commented, "I hope you DON'T save 15% or more on your car insurance." Some other creative ones included, "I hope every time you get on a flight, it's full of crying babies" and "I hope someone eats your leftovers in the fridge that you've been thinking about all day."
At his basketball games, playing for the Cavaliers, the audience would chant, "Khloe! Khloe! Khloe!" whenever he got onto the court to show him that they were not on his side.
Somehow, Kim Kardashian can do the most scandalous things and get away with it, but it seems like her poor choices are catching up with her. Eventually, people are going to get sick of her behavior — and it looks like they are already starting to. Where do we even begin? Let's start with the fact that Kim tried to make "Bo Derek braids" a thing, posting a photo of her with cornrows in a photo that many would consider cultural appropriation, according to Allure. Then, there is the fact that she and her sisters are known to be complete nightmares for their nannies to work for, according to Ok! Magazine.
Kim has been accused of playing with her kids for a few minutes, taking a few selfies, and then handing them back to her nannies as soon as they start making a fuss.
When Jennifer Lawrence first came onto the scene, she was this cute, funny girl who actually seemed somewhat normal, telling people that she was always hungry, tripping on the red carpet, and stepping over a chair in a gown with a glass of wine in her hand. But, what if it is all smoke and mirrors? What if that is exactly how she wants you to perceive her? More and more people are starting to think this way.
It is starting to appear as though Jennifer has made some questionable connections in the entertainment industry in order to get her to where she is in her career today.
The Duggar Family
The Duggar family's reputation has been going downhill for some time now, but it seems that they cannot get away from scandal. How long will it be until everyone has written them off? It seems like their fans are dwindling by the second — which is probably true because no one in their right mind would support this "faithful" family. After their eldest son, Josh, was accused of harming his younger sisters when they were younger, Michelle and Jim Bob defended him, which angered a lot of people.
Then, there were Jill Duggar's husband, Derek Dillard's, homophobic tweets, which got them kicked off the family's 19 Kids & Counting spin-off, Counting On. He tweeted that being gay was a "travesty of family" and that "celebrating" this kind of lifestyle was "degrading to children."
Katy Perry probably thought that starring on American Idol as a judge would be good for her career, but it really just highlighted her flaws for the world to see. The "I Kissed A Girl" singer's career was already suffering, with her fans not identifying with her new "edgy" look and vibe. People were really over her feud with Taylor Swift, and she didn't earn any new fans from mouthing off and talking trash on her live social media stream. Her tour ticket sales for her Witness tour were extremely low, with Babe reporting that they were selling for less than "a box of tampons," which for the men who don't know, is less than $10.
The Daily Mail reported that American Idol executives were extremely frustrated with Perry, who would typically show up late to filming, with insiders claiming that she was "almost always later," showing up "10-25 minutes after call time."
Russell Simmons was one of the biggest names in music for years, and now, he is one of the biggest disgraces. He co-founded the label, Def Jam Records, as well as Rush Communications, but he pretty much lost it all after he was accused of assault and/or harassment by 15 women. Now, there have been a lot of men who have been accused of misconduct in recent months, but it is pretty hard to argue with 15 separate complaints. Naturally, Russell has claimed that all of his encounters were consensual, but what do 15 different women have to gain by coming forward with a lie?
Blac Chyna had her 15 minutes of fame when she got together with Rob Kardashian, had a baby, and demanded a reality show. When she and Rob ended things, she was determined to remain relevant, but the Kardashians were not going to let that happen. She actually ended up losing the majority of her endorsement deals, which included a range of fit teas and waist trainers, despite the fact that Chyna's body is 98% fake. After getting into a physical fight with another mother at Six Flags, her sponsorship deal with a stroller company was done, according to The Hollywood Gossip.
Now, she has two children by two different men— Tyga (who is also Kylie Jenner's ex) and Rob Kardashian — but wait, she has another child on the way.
Thomas Ravenel is the star of Bravo's hit reality series, Southern Charm. Now, this guy definitely did not have the best reputation before, having been sent to jail for the possession of a substance, being a crooked politician, and just being known as a misogynistic womanizer in general, but that never stopped him from becoming a reality television star in his fifties. However, now that he has been accused of assaulting his nanny while his children were asleep in the house, he can pretty much kiss his celebrity career goodbye — if you can even call it that.
Matt Lauer may have spoken out for the first time in five months about the harassment and assault allegations he is facing, but that does not mean that his reputation is getting any better. In fact, he used the opportunity to deny all of the allegations, saying, "I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false." A few months ago, a former NBC employee accused the Today! show host of locking her in his office with a button that he had installed under his desk and then forcing himself on her, assaulting her in the process.
However, Lauer's response was actually directed at the most recent allegations made by his former colleague and co-host, Ann Curry, in April. She told The Post that she had tried to warn the staff that he was behaving inappropriately in 2012 after a woman confided in her that she had been assaulted by the television host. Curry told the paper, "A woman approached me and asked me tearfully if I could help her. She was afraid of losing her job. … I believed her." She added, “I told management they had a problem and they needed to keep an eye on him and how he deals with women."
