Ask the Captain: I have the window seat in Row 10 but where's my window?

Question: While traveling on a Boeing 737-800, I noticed there was no window in Row 10 on the left side. What is the reason for this?

Answer: There is often a missing window on jets since the air conditioning vents run up the wall there. Some airplanes also leave a window out in line with the fan section of the engine incase of a blade separation.

Question: Is there any specific way flights are numbered?

Answer: Each airline has their own way of numbering flights. That said, there does have to be some coordination between companies to prevent different carriers from having the same flight number  in the same airspace.
