In the second quarter of 2022, China's cell phones large screen, high resolution, high pixel camera configuration, high memory configuration and other performance features are concentrated in 5G cell phone products, 5G cell phones continue to show the development trend of high performance; cell phone camera high pixel ratio is growing steadily.

Domestic cell phone screen characteristics monitoring analysis

The screen is an important interface between the phone and the user, and its configuration and characteristics directly affect the user's experience. Therefore, the screen and the core chipset are called the two core devices of the cell phone and occupy a high proportion in the cost of the phone.

  • Dimensional characteristics

Size as the first external characteristics of the screen, directly determines the first user perception, but also has an important impact on the user's use and habits.

According to the statistical analysis of the China Academy of Information and Communication Research, in the second quarter of 2022, the cell phone listed in China, 5 inches and above large screen cell phone models accounted for 81.6%, of which 5G cell phone large screen accounted for 100%, 4G cell phone large screen accounted for 59.5%.

  • Resolution

The screen resolution directly affects the user's visual senses. If the screen size is too large if the resolution is too low, it will also greatly reduce the user's experience. Therefore, the resolution is also one of the key indicators that users focus on when buying a cell phone.

According to the statistical analysis of the China Academy of Information and Communication Research, in the second quarter of 2022, 78.6% of the cell phones listed in China were HD cell phones (HD720 and above) models. 100% of the HD models of 5G cell phones and 52.4% of the HD models of 4G cell phones.

  • Cell phone screen-to-body ratio

Cell phone screen ratio is the ratio of the screen area of the phone to the whole area of the phone (straight phone). Improving the screen-to-body ratio means enhancing the display in the space of a specific size of the phone to bring about a change in the intuitive shape of the phone and enhance the phone experience.

According to the statistical analysis of the China Academy of Information and Communication Research, in the second quarter of 2022, China's listed cell phones, the screen accounted for more than 70% of the cell phone models accounted for 79.6%, of which the 5G cell phone screen accounted for more than 70% of the cell phone models accounted for 100%.

Domestic cell phone camera characteristics monitoring analysis

  • Camera Configuration

The camera is an important collection device on the cell phone, and is an important carrier for users to use multimedia services.

According to the statistical analysis of China Academy of Information and Communication Research, the percentage of 5G cell phones with rear camera models listed in China in the second quarter of 2022 is 100%, and the percentage of models with front camera models is 100%; the percentage of 4G cell phones with rear camera models is 80.9%, and the percentage of models with front camera models is 61.9%.

  • Number of cameras

In order to meet the demand for more detailed photos in different scenarios, the phone realizes the imaging solution through the synergy of multiple rear cameras, mainly in the combination configuration between the main camera and depth of field, black and white, wide angle, telephoto, 3D and other cameras, calling different cameras according to different algorithms and scene settings when the phone is shooting.

According to the statistical analysis of China Academy of Information and Communication Research, the percentage of models with 2 or more rear cameras in China's listed cell phones in the second quarter of 2022 is 64.3%; the percentage of models with 2 or more rear cameras in 4G cell phones is 26.2%, and the percentage of models with 2 or more rear cameras in 5G cell phones is 94.5%.

  • Front camera pixels

The original use of the front camera is mainly for video calls and other services. With the booming of mobile Internet services, the front camera is widely used in self-timer, OTT video calls, etc.

According to the statistical analysis of China Academy of Information and Communication Research, in the second quarter of 2022, among the 5G cell phones with front camera listed in China, the percentage of models with camera pixels equal to or higher than 5 million is 96.4%; among 4G cell phones, the percentage of models with camera pixels equal to or higher than 5 million is 59.5%.

  • Rear camera pixels

Compared to the front camera, the rear camera of the phone is used more frequently. The current application scenario of cell phone shooting has also been generalized, and the rear camera is widely used for high-definition photography and videography, but its role also extends to QR code scanning, payment, instant translation, AR technology application, etc. Therefore, the pixel configuration of the rear camera is more demanding compared to the front camera.

According to the statistical analysis of China Academy of Information and Communication Research, the percentage of models with camera pixels equal to or higher than 13 million among 5G phones with rear cameras listed in China in the second quarter of 2022 is 100.0%; the percentage of models with camera pixels equal to or higher than 5 million among 4G phones is 64.3%.

Monitoring and analysis of the basic characteristics of domestic cell phones

  • Memory capacity configuration

According to the statistical analysis of the China Academy of Information and Communication Research, the proportion of models with RAM memory capacity of 2GB and above among cell phones listed in China in the second quarter of 2022 is 82.6%, among which the proportion of models with RAM memory capacity of 2GB and above among 4G cell phones is 61.9%, and the RAM memory capacity among 5G cell phones is 4GB and above.

The proportion of models with ROM memory capacity of 128GB and above among cell phones listed in China in the second quarter of 2022 was 78.6%, including 52.4% of models with ROM memory capacity of 128GB and above among 4G phones and 100% of models with ROM memory capacity of 128GB and above among 5G phones.

  • Number of CPU cores and main frequency

The core architecture and main frequency of the cell phone CPU reflect the operating performance of the phone to a certain extent. 73.5% of the cell phones listed in China in the second quarter of 2022 have an octa-core CPU, of which 40.5% are 4G cell phone models with an octa-core CPU and 100% are 5G cell phone models with an octa-core CPU.

In the second quarter of 2022, the percentage of cell phone models with CPU main frequency higher than 2GHz listed in China is 77.5%, among which the percentage of 4G cell phone models with CPU main frequency higher than 2GHz is 50% and the percentage of 5G cell phone models with CPU main frequency higher than 2GHz is 100%.
