Recently, Nestle Toll House shared this twist on a classic dessert, Banana Bread Banana Pudding (Double Banana Pudding). With so many people making banana bread, it is a simple, easy extension of ingredients that are already in the pantry. In about 30 minutes, dessert can go from ingredients to the table.
Here’s how to make Banana Bread Banana Pudding (Double Banana Pudding).
Prep Time: 10 Min
Cooking Time: 20 Min
Yield: 10 Servings
- 2 Cups Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, cut into ½ inch cubes
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 TBS + 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 Cups + 1 oz. (1 17oz. Tetra Pack) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
- 1 large egg + 1 yolk
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 ripe but firm bananas, cut into 1/4-inch slices
- 2 cups whipped cream OR frozen whipped topping
- Optional Additional Topping: Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Morsels or Mini Morsels
LINE the bottom of an 8 inch baking dish or a 2 quart glass bowl with half of the cubes of banana bread.
COMBINE sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan. Gradually stir in evaporated milk to dissolve cornstarch. Whisk in egg and yolk. Add butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture begins to thicken. Reduce heat to low; bring to a simmer and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
POUR half of pudding over banana bread in dish. Top with half of bananas. Layer remaining banana bread over bananas. Top with remaining pudding, then remaining bananas. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Top with whipped cream or whipped topping and optional additional morsels before serving.

This recipe uses a larger pan for the dessert. If you prefer, you could use individual parfait bowls or other serving vessels. Sometimes people prefer to have a little more of some layers than others. It could be a way to customize each dessert.
Additionally, you could cheat and use a box pudding or a pre-made pudding. Semi-homemade treats are totally acceptable. While the pudding might not have the same “love” as this homemade version, not everyone is ready to temper eggs and use cornstarch. Sometimes small steps can help build confidence in the kitchen.
With summer around the corner, this Double Banana Pudding recipe would be perfect for an outdoor barbecue or a Sunday dinner. Plus, it uses that banana bread that you made, which helps to keep food waste to a minimum.
