Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is a proud father who loves posting about his kids. But this time, it got him into trouble with his own fans.
He showed followers a glimpse of his 3-year-old daughter learning to swim. Sweet, right?
The only problem was that his little girl was completely naked in the photo -- and fans called him out.
Jasmine is three years old, which is a great time to learn how to swim.
In the picture, she is perched on the side of the pool.
Notably, she was not wearing a stitch, where one usually wears some sort of bathing suit while learning how to swim.
At one point, the image had nearly 3 million "likes."
Among the more than 2.9 million "likes" were those from celebrity parents like David Beckham and Josh Brolin.
But the backlash that he received even during that brief window was intense.
Even his most diehard fans took him to task over this lapse in judgment.
"“I love the Rock but this pic isn’t necessary for social media," wrote one. "They made bathing suits for a reason."
"As a mother to [a] female human," another comment read. "Please cover her nakedness on media platforms."
We'll admit that cover her nakedness is a super weird phrase to use, but many shared the general sentiment.
"Why is she naked though?" inquired another.
Others didn't question the nudity so much as the social media sharing thereof.
"Why would you expose a young child’s body to millions of people?" another follower demanded to know.
Some of Dwayne's followers leapt to his defense, explaining that what was going down was a mere cultural misunderstanding.
"Those who are sexualizing this picture of his daughter because she is swimming with no clothes on," a comment began.
The defender continued: "obviously don’t know what it’s like to grow up in the islands or in a Polynesian household."
"This is very normal and not sexual in any way with our culture," the fan explained.
So, it's a cultural practice for learning to swim. Case closed?
The big controversial issue wasn't that Jasmine was swimming naked. The nakedness itself has been explained.
Sure, that's unusual. Most three-year-olds wear swimsuits of one kind or another.
(Some even wear a variety of swim diapers -- you can't be too careful, even with someone who's potty trained)
The problem is that the photo was published to social media.
The first issue, of course, is that there are absolute creeps out there who derive sick enjoyment from seeing a naked 3-year-old girl.
The second issue is that no one, especially preschoolers, needs to have their nudes posted on the internet without their permission.
Obviously, Dwayne deeply adores all three of his children.
Sometimes, people get so lost in their feelings -- in his case, fatherly pride and affection -- that they forget how others might respond.
To him, he's seeing his precious daughter at an important milestone in her life.
He certainly never meant to violate any boundaries or to make her a target for the grossest people alive.
He's a good dude.
