Kylie Jenner recently posted a video of herself doing her daughter Stormi’s hair, and people are absolutely loving it.
Kylie’s daughter with boyfriend Travis Scott, Stormi Webster, is mixed-race. She’s only a year old, but her hair already appears to look like many mixed girls hair — thick and curly. It’s not anything like Kylie’s hair texture, which means there’s a learning curve here.
Kylie shared a time-lapse video on her Instagram Stories in which she patiently styled her daughter’s hair. She combed it, moisturized it, and slicked it back into a ponytail.
“I love doing her hair.
I’m not the best, but I love learning,” Kylie wrote in the caption.
Just the fact that she’s learning is admirable, and she’s doing a great job already! She used all the right tools, and her baby looks so comfortable and happy during the process.
Fans on social media are very impressed.
“I’m very proud of @kyliejenner learning how to do her mixed race daughter Stormi’s hair!” one woman wrote.
“Miss Kylie Jenner had an edgebrush while she was doing Stormi’s hair. I appreciate the growth, sis,” added another fan.
Kylie Jenner seems to be loving her new role as a mom. Her daughter, Stormi Webster, is now one year old.
This week, Kylie posted a time-lapse video of herself doing Stormi’s hair. She moisturizes and detangles it, then slicks it back into a ponytail with a brush.
“I love doing her hair. I’m not the best. But I love learning,” Kylie explained. “Some of my favorite memories are of my mom doing my hair.”
“Can’t wait till her hair is long enough to all fit in the pony. Gotta make it work for now,” she added.
Fans on social media are praising Kylie for her styling efforts. First of all, Stormi getting her hair done is cute as heck.
And second of all, as a white mother to a Black daughter, Kylie learning how to do Stormi’s hair properly is really important. The different hair texture can be a major barrier for some white moms of mixed-race kids, and many moms just don’t bother to put in the effort.
That neglect does a serious disservice to their children — it’s not just about how cute they look, but also about how they feel in their own skin. You never want to send a message to a child that their hair is too “difficult” or “unruly” to style; especially a Black child, who will already receive that negative messaging from the rest of society.
Luckily, Kylie seems to have this hair stuff handled. She must practice regularly, because Stormi is so calm and patient in that chair!
Some fans also pointed out that Kylie even used an “edge brush,” which people with curly and kinky hair often use to lay their edges down smoothly.
“I appreciate the growth, sis,” one woman wrote.
“Go off sis,” another woman agreed.
Kylie may have taken a lesson or two from her older sister Kim. Kim famously went to a hairstylist for lessons on how to braid her eldest daughter North’s hair.
And like Kylie, Kim was highly praised for putting in the effort. There’s no shame in asking for help with something that you’ve never done before!
Now, Kim seems to also have the hang of North’s curly hair texture. North regularly steps out with braids, high ponytails, and gorgeous loose curls.
Kim has caught some heat, though, for occasionally straightening North’s hair. People accused her of potentially damaging North’s hair at too young of an age. It’s an understandable criticism, given how many Black kids were forced to straighten their hair against their will at some point in their lives.
But as Kim explained, North wanted her hair that way, and she’s a very independent fashionista already.
If anyone can straighten their kid’s hair without heat damage, it’s probably Kim and her team of professional hair stylists.
“She wanted straight hair and I straightened her hair one time,” Kim said at the time. “It’s funny, because online everyone thought that we pressed it and did this whole thing. It was just a flat iron…It was her birthday and all she wanted was to try to have her hair straightened.”
