Write in front
Seven or eight years ago, I bought a Casio G-Shock light wave watch in Japan, has been used to this day still very much like, every time to participate in outdoor activities and even go out on vacation to play will wear.
In addition to its superb value, I like to wear it for two other reasons.
- ①Resistant to manufacture. Not afraid of water or bumps and bruises.
- ② Save your mind. Solar power renewal, no need to charge, automatic time alignment at the base station, no need to manually calibrate the time ever.
I know that G-SHOCK is still a classic in the hearts of many people (including me), but I have to say that at a time of explosive growth of smart wearable devices, G-SHOCK is really a bit out of step with many scenarios in life. For example.
- ① It cannot alert the phone to important messages when it is working in a hurry with its head down.
- ② When you go downstairs in a hurry to throw the garbage and forget your phone, it can't swipe the stair control - not to mention the bus and subway.
- ③ It can't record data when you go out for a walk/exercise - not to mention quick payments.
But all these problems can be solved in front of the smart watch.
So is there a smartwatch that combines the advantages of both and is both durable and hassle-free? The answer is yes!
In the middle of May, I got a $1000 Chinese smartwatch (Huami T-Rex 2), and I've been using it for a whole month as of writing this article. With this time dimension, I think I should be able to talk about it in a more objective and comprehensive way.
Appearance
The outer packaging is black and orange as always, and the overall texture is still quite good.
The packaging inside is not too overwhelming, with the plain white cardboard firmly "nestled" in the middle of the watch. The "UP YOUR GAME" on the dial is the theme of one of Amazfit's launches, and seems to be the brand's slogan - meaning "Upward Bound". It gives a sense of vitality and vigor.
The watch has four symmetrical buttons on the top, bottom, left, and right, and the buttons are made of metal with a cross texture on the key caps that straight men can't resist. The feedback is very obvious, with a strong sense of paragraph, and accompanied by a crisp "click" sound, is a boredom relief tool ~
Of course, the dial itself is also touch-enabled, as will be demonstrated below.
But the watch is not entirely symmetrical: there is an additional "ear" with the brand logo between the two buttons on the right side, and the barometer is protected underneath ▲
Like all smartwatches, the back of the dial has various sensors such as heart rate monitoring ▲
The strap is pin-perforated, with a dense distribution of small holes, making it relatively easy to adjust to your own comfortable tightness ▲
Use experience
As a smartwatch with such a strong outdoor style, the experience part starts with the sports and outdoor functions.
Regular outdoor running and walking nothing much to say, most brands in terms of function is similar, the accuracy is not much different, here I will swim and climbing these two functions to show.
Swimming
Swimming is a test of the water resistance of a watch. Splashproof and immersion-proof are two different concepts in the waterproof class. As a sports watch, it should not only be resistant to immersion, but also to deep water immersion, and can be immersed for a long time.
Officially, it supports "100m water resistance", which is almost a diving level standard. I spent more than an hour in the pool and demonstrated the operation of the watch underwater, and the test was very solid ▲
Functionally, swimming is also divided into "pool swimming" and "open water swimming".
If you choose pool swimming, the watch will let you set the lane length first - once set, the watch will not actually measure the distance even if you set the wrong value.
For example, if I deliberately set the lane length to 50 meters in a 100-meter-long pool, then no matter how I swim, when you stop to check your watch at the opposite end, the watch will show your single swim length as 50 meters (but it's actually 100 meters)▲
Of course, if you swim back and forth multiple times, the watch will also detect a short pause on your return trip and automatically multiply your swim length. The 100m cue in the screenshot was because I paused in the middle.
If you want the watch to accurately measure your actual swimming distance, you can select "Open Water Swimming".
I also tried, in a 100-meter-long lane pool, the actual measured swimming distance is 113 meters. Considering that it is impossible to swim in a completely straight line, the actual swimming distance must be more than 100 meters, so the test result of 113 meters is quite accurate.
The final measured detailed data will show the exercise time, average pace, paddling rate and other information, the data is very detailed, very helpful for users to assess their own exercise level.
Mountaineering
In addition to recording data such as heart rate and distance, the most important data in the mountaineering function is the altitude. The official statement is "built-in high-precision barometer", by detecting the change of air pressure, the real altitude is converted ▲
Of course with one device alone, we cannot perceive whether the altitude test is accurate or not. I went to climb a mountain in a famous local scenic spot during the weekend, and then took the data to compare with the data tested by my friend who often climbs mountains with Garmin, and both of them basically matched up.
Of course, recording heart rate data, statistics on climbing time, etc. are necessary functions - the ritual of exercise is still very important. It is not just a ritual, but it can also help us to perceive our health status.
Truth be told, the information alert function is actually more important than all of the above features during climbing. We can't easily perceive the ringing in our pants pockets as well as the vibrations during exercise, but the vibrations from the flesh-hugging watch can still be clearly perceived.
It also has a very interesting feature, which is the GPS track display ▲
1.5x speed
This feature is hidden deeper, so I'll show you how to open it here ▲
Firstly, select "Sports", take "Outdoor Hiking" as an example, after opening, the watch will move to search for GPS signal, when the search is successful, the icon will turn from red to green; then click "Start When the search is successful, the icon will change from red to green; then click "Start", and the watch will start to record the movement. When you click "Start", the watch will start to record the movement. Scroll down the record page, and at the end is the GPS track page.
Demonstration of my people are halfway up the mountain, you can see the GPS signal search speed is still very fast, said to support the five global satellite positioning system. However, the GPS signal can hardly be searched indoors.
In the APP, in addition to the regular consumption, steps and altitude data, you can also see the GPS track, and always know your specific location in the whole mountain, which is a really good feeling to open the God's perspective ▲
In addition, this track interface can actually be used as a compass in the field in case of emergency ▲
Regular pool use as well as hiking use is actually very satisfactory to me. But in the details page, I saw a "-40 ℃ low temperature test" content. The refrigerator at home is only -18℃, so it's not too much for me to test it, right?
-18℃ violent real test
Take a glass container full of water, and then soak the watch in the water directly with the power on, and then put the whole bowl of water in the refrigerator freezer - strictly speaking, the watch is not in the pool for long, and this test is the ▲
I opened the refrigerator from afternoon to midnight and was shocked to see the watch completely frozen ▲
I tried to simulate a wrist lift action to quickly pick up the entire glass bowl, but the dial did not light up the screen. Is it...broken?
I didn't dare to use a hammer to break the ice, and chose to choose a milder way: using hot water at 50 to 60 degrees to slowly melt away the ice ▲
After many times of adding and pouring water, the ice finally melted away completely, and the moment I took out the watch, I immediately tried to press the side button to light it up, and the watch was all intact ▲
The picture above is a complete record of the icing process. This is also my first time to try "chilled watch" ▲
By the time I write this review, it has been more than half a month since the end of the test, and the watch functions as it should. The extreme cold test passed perfectly!
In addition to the extreme cold test, I also conducted a violent crush test on it with the Tesla Maozu Y.
The front and rear wheels of the car were run over one after another, and there were some problems with the watch attitude when the rear wheels were run over. But even in such a "thrilling" situation, it passed the test surprisingly well ▲
Although it is a triple-defense military standard outdoor sports watch, it is still essentially a smart watch and most of the use scenarios are still daily life. So here is the content about the experience of using it in daily life.
NFC access control (supports multiple blank cards)
This function is relatively basic, but it is the most frequently used function in life. The setting path is "Zeep APP-Card Package-Access Card-Custom Blank Card", and then you can find the corresponding card under the "Card Pack" option of the watch.
Some people may say that this function bracelet also has.
Yes, but in contrast to the bracelet, it can add multiple blank cards - which means one watch can swipe open multiple access points at the same time.
As for the comparison of cell phones, I think the watch brush access control is really will be more convenient.
My home elevator access control on the left side of the door, every time I walk into the elevator, reach out and brush the ladder control, and press the door close button, the whole set of movements is very smooth. And sometimes it is not convenient to take out the phone with a lot of things in my hand, the advantage of the watch is even more obvious.
Offline Payment
Offline payment function is also available on many bracelets, so we won't go into details here.
Sometimes when you go out for a walk or run alone with your family after dinner, and want to buy a bottle of water at a roadside convenience store without your phone, the offline payment function will make you feel simply too good to use.
This function can be bound to both Alipay and WeChat, and if you are worried about the security of your account, you can also set a single day payment limit, and the settings can be changed at any time ▲
Sleep Monitoring
Sleep monitoring is a feature that I personally care about. Sometimes when I wake up and feel tired, I will open the APP to see the specific sleep status, which records in detail the proportion of time spent in deep sleep and light sleep, and will also give a sleep quality score by combining data such as sleep duration ▲
But unfortunately, this T-Rex 2 is rather hardcore in appearance, so it is still a bit strong to wear it at night while sleeping. This is one of the few things that I don't feel very satisfied with after a month.
Remote control photography
Another more interesting feature is the remote control of the photo.
After activating this function, the camera is opened on the phone side, and the phone can finish shooting by pressing the shutter button on the watch ▲
This feature is very useful for taking group photos when you are outdoors without other photo equipment. The specific opening path is "menu - more - remote photo", very easy to find, and shooting almost no delay.
Summary
The watch has been used for more than a month, at the end of the article to say a subjective feeling.
- The appearance is very good, the details of workmanship exceed my expectations of a thousand-dollar domestic smartwatch, and by a long shot, with almost no fault to be picked.
- The strap is soft and stiff, comfortable to wear and breathable, but I think the texture could be a little better. Regrettably, the strap is not good for replacement, and for the time being I have no need to replace it, so I did not study it in depth.
- The dial is clearly marked on the function of the buttons, and the logic of operation is also very simple, basically once you use it all remembered, no need to deliberately adapt, extremely fast to get started.
- -18 ℃ violence test and Tes has crushed the test more or fun, this is my first frozen watch, but also the first time to use the car to crush the smart watch, the test process is full of expectations, but also very shocked
- waterproof performance is very satisfied, the future to go swimming must wear it, to see the time and record the amount of exercise are very good to use.
- I also wear it when climbing, especially when I go climbing alone, the message alert is very critical, and the GPS track record can also let me know my location more clearly.
- The most important thing I look for in daily life is actually the ability to add multiple access blank cards, brushing a variety of access ladder control is particularly cool, better than cell phones!
- The battery life was so long that I used it for almost a month after I received it without charging (about 80%). Shocked, I took a look at the details page and the official range was 28 days! A month of charging, save your mind.
- Another very important point is that it has excellent system compatibility and can be switched between IOS and Android at will. For users like me, whose phones are constantly switching between the two operating systems, it is simply too friendly.
I've said so many advantages, but also say a disadvantage. I don't know if you can see it clearly in this picture, but some very small dust is adsorbed on the local position of the dial ▲
I observed that, probably because of the dial material, it is easy to leave fingerprints and fine dust on the dial, and the rest screen will affect the quality of the watch, which is a small shortcoming. In addition, the watch dial is large, not suitable for sleeping, and the strap is not good for replacement. Small features, it does not support Bluetooth calls, blood pressure monitoring, and temperature measurement - of course, I personally do not care about these features, I even think that the Bluetooth call function is extremely poor practicality. But still listed together for your reference.
When I first liked Casio G-Shock, it was because it was good-looking, durable and trouble-free. Now this Huami T-Rex 2 smartwatch has all three of these advantages perfectly, and with all the additional modern digital functions such as access control and payment, I can't think of any reason to reject it.
A thousand out of the sale price, so fragrant!
Insist on doing reviews with attitude and producing content with temperature. I am tomato, we will see you in the next article~
