To the casual observer, it seemed that Kim Kardashian West narrowly avoided a wardrobe malfunction when she stepped out in the now-iconic bust-baring black Mugler dress at the Hollywood Beauty Awards. But according to the fashion tastemaker, she wasn’t worried about suffering from a nip slip at all.
“It is funny, I could show so much skin on something like that Mugler dress and everyone was like, ‘How did you feel confident that you were not going to pop out?'” Kardashian West, 38, told PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue, on newsstands now.
“That [dress] was so fit to me. I was actually so confident in [it],” she added.
Kardashian West’s fashion team ensured the vintage Mugler design wouldn’t budge from her body all night. “Nothing would have ever made me pop out of that or have me slip. Like, it was so tailored exactly to my body,” she said.

The star added, “I didn’t even have to be taped in!”
When asked if she ever gets nervous about showing skin, Kardashian West answered without missing a beat. “No. Not really.”
But that said, she admitted certain events do get her heart pumping more than others. “I definitely get really nervous before a big red carpet. Especially the Met,” Kardashian West said.
Although the star’s more revealing looks tend to be the ones etched in our minds, she noted that she doesn’t always bare it all. “I go through different phases where I feel like showing more skin and then when I feel like not,” Kardashian West explained.
She added, “When I was in Paris wearing those Alaïa looks a few weeks ago, I was fully covered up. But I felt just as sexy as I did [when I was] less covered up. So it really depends on my mood.”

Her ultimate fashion advice? “You just have to have fun with it,” she said. “Whatever you’re feeling, you just got to go with it.”
