Chip, chip, hooray, McDonald’s is giving away free chips this week and 2019 just got a little better. While Ronald is known for his ever-expanding menu and giving us the odd treat, free chips are a new one from the golden arches. So, how do you bag a bag?
it’s official, Friday, November 22 is ‘Free Fries Friday’. Hungry foodies can grab a free portion of medium fries by simply ordering through the official McDonald’s app. You must be over 16 and other conditions limit customers to just one portion, but apart from that, enjoy your chips.
New users will have to go into a McDonald’s branch for their first order. If you’ve used the app before, you can use click and collect, the Drive-Thru, or try the new Table Markers feature where you can get your food brought to you at a table. Head to the deals section of the app, and voila, your free chips should be there from 11am on Friday.
Better yet, the free fries are no purchase necessary, meaning you don’t have to buy anything else to go with it. I mean, you could always buy a milkshake to dip them in if you’re one of *those* people. Be warned though, there a few McDonald’s stores that aren’t taking part, so check the website to find out if your local is giving you an early Christmas present.
Chip connoisseurs were quick to jump on the news on Twitter. One wrote, “Who doesn’t love free chip friday?” Another gushed, “McDonald’s free fries Friday is true?” and someone just said “Oh sh*t”. Well, free is free!
We don’t know why November 22 was selected as the magic date, but note this is a one-off promotion. Maybe it’s because it’s getting close to Christmas as McDonald’s biggest rivals are showing off their seasonal menus. Only this week, KFC reintroduced is Festive Burger from 2016 — complete with Festive Fries.
In other Maccies news, the fast food giant just rolled out its full festive menu. On offer this year, we see the return of the Big Tasty and Camembert Cheese Dippers. There’s also the long-awaited revival of the Matchmaker Cool Mint McFlurry for the first time since 2013, and a new burger called the Chicken Deluxe.
