Historic Chongwenmen.

It is a unified gate of nine gates ☞ As the southeast gate of the capital in the Ming and Qing dynasties, Chongwen Gate was an important passage into the capital. For all foreigners coming to Beijing, successfully passing through the Chongwenmen tax gate check was the key to decide whether they could actually enter Beijing city.

It is a political gate ☞ Internally it marks the spatial order of the capital, and externally it is an important passage for people from the capital to interact with non-capital people.

It is a gate of culture ☞ The literati and eminent officials walk through it, creating a unique humanistic environment in the capital.

It is also an economic gate ☞ The flow of goods from all over the country converges to create one of the largest consumer centers in the country, supporting the unique economic development pattern that historically "Beijing produces nothing and Beijing lacks nothing".

This is the history of Chongwenmen, where we live, and the magnificent Chongwenmen has been destroyed to such a miserable state by 1901.

Chongwen is gone, Chongwenmen is gone, Wengcheng ☞ Louzi is gone, but Chongwenmen and Huashi will always be in the hearts and minds of 110103 people, just because we lived here, we are Chongwen people, we are still living in the territory of Chongwenmen, and our community jurisdiction is still Chongwenmen street!

Chongwen, west of Dongbianmen, east of Qianmen Street, south of Chongwenmen intersection, and north of Yufiao Bridge are all Chongwen districts.

Chongwenmen was once called ☞ Hadamun, Hadamun, Haidaimen, and Wenmingmen, and in the Yuan and early Ming dynasties it was called Wenmingmen, and in the fourth year of the Zhengtong era, in 1439, it was rebuilt and the urn city was added, and the name was changed to Chongwenmen, which is a robust and civilized name that means reverence for culture and virtue, as opposed to Xuanwumen, which is a left-wen and right-wu name. And in these names Hade Gate to today is still known as the title.

I have introduced the folk proverb "the inner nine, the outer seven, the imperial city four, nine doors, eight dian a bell" in the previous article of the pen tour, which summarizes the layout of the capital and the city gates, which is the four gates of the imperial city and the city of the nine gates of the inner city, Chongwenmen is obviously one of the four nine.

At first we thought that this hutong and Shanghai lane were called one south and one north, at least I thought so. Actually not, the Mongolians just entered Beijing, digging well is sweet called shitang hutong ☞ digging well is bitter called valley burn hutong ☞ digging well yellow soil more called Xila hutong ☞ digging well has an indescribable taste called Mohe hutong, these are actually the translation of Mongolian. Talking about this is to say how this Hade Gate was called out and passed down to this day, and was called Civilization Gate during the Yuan Dynasty. The "Old News Under the Sun Examination" quotes, "Hada Da Wang's house is in the door, because of the name." The history of Hada Da Wang as a genus of people will not be considered. According to a teacher Zhao recalled that the Yuan Dynasty had a magnificent scale of the landmark Mongolian royal residence, people tube that the king called Hadar Prince, the fame of this king's residence at that time can be big, later people will call this door by the name of this royal residence for Hadar door, is not it, or that old saying ☞ legend only. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get a good deal on this. The actual fact is that I have a history of this.

Huashi is an east-west street that runs east out of the Chongwen Gate in the inner city, and is divided into two sections, east and west, with the Yang Shi Kou as the boundary. The western section is West Huashi Street, and the eastern section is East Huashi Street. Huashi Street was called "Shenmu Factory Street" in the Ming Dynasty because the Shenmu Factory was located here, and it was renamed Huashi Street in the Qing Dynasty.

Still, there's no basis but custom. This flower market should be pronounced "Flower Market"

Flower market. The flowers sold are not flowers but people's favorite hairpin flowers, also called silk flowers, the world silk flowers out of the capital, the capital silk flowers out of the flower market. This flower market is the present day Chongwenmen boundary on the flower market street.

It's famous can be known from the TV series ☞ Liu Lou Lou said, "Although I am old, I was also flirtatious when I was young and loved a flower and powder, and it's only good to be old and flirtatious today."

We are close to the Imperial City in this part of Hua'er City, and the Fire God Temple in the west is very famous, or built by royal decree, and the scenery is good, and the water and wood is strong. There are more than 20 temples with a lot of incense.

During the Jiajing period, the outer city of Beijing was rebuilt, and the southern city was divided into six workshops, and the area around Hua'er City belonged to Chongbei Square, where artisan workshops and some handicraft shops began to settle, gradually forming a market for the sale of velvet flowers, silk flowers, paper flowers, flowers with grass, material ware flowers, and flowers.

This time we have found a theory. The name "Flower Market" is not a customary name, as it was referred to as "Flower Market Street" in the Qing Dynasty's "Draft of Beijing's Square and Alley" and "Qing Qianlong Beijing Complete Map".

Today we do not talk about flowers, this is a lot of people have talked about this topic, the city of flowers is named by flowers, but this place is a lot of famous places, in addition to the fire temple, there is a reclining Buddha Temple here are you surprised, I am surprised.

There are three reclining Buddha temples in Beijing.

Xishan Wolverine Temple: We all know the Wolverine Temple in the Beijing Botanical Garden, whose proper name is "Tenfold Pujing Temple". It was built during the Tang Dynasty (627-649) and was originally known as Douli Temple, also known as Shou'an Temple. It is famous for its huge reclining Buddha, which was made of bronze during the Yuan Dynasty.

Fuxingmennei Reclining Buddha Temple: The temple was demolished during the expansion of Chang'an Street in the 1950s, and was demolished in 1972 when the Fuxingmen Interchange Bridge was under construction. The temple was built in the 22nd year of the Tang Dynasty and was initially called the Silt Temple, but later changed to the Vulture Peak Temple.

Chongwen District Reclining Buddha Temple: called Chongxing Temple in the Ming Dynasty, also known as Miaoyin Temple. Created in the Ming Dynasty, it is located in the East Huashi Xiejie. There was originally a wooden reclining Buddha, the largest in the Beijing area (now in Fayuan Temple, which I have not seen even after many visits). Legend has it that Cao Xueqin once practiced in the Reclining Buddha Temple for a period of time. The seventeen and a half houses of the Cao family, where Cao Xueqin originally lived, are located in Garlic Marketplace. Perhaps it was because it was not far from here. Cao Xueqin moved from Nanjing to Beijing and lived in Garshikou [now Magzikou]. According to the relevant scholar Zhang Shucai, who used the Qianlong "Full Map of the Capital" to cross-reference, it was determined that the original courtyard at 207 Guangqumennei Street was the original location of Cao Xueqin's former residence. The courtyard has 18 houses, and according to folklore, the yin and yang rooms and doorways are counted as half rooms, exactly matching the pattern of seventeen and a half rooms. It is a pity that the original site was demolished and lost. There is a good news to tell you that ☞ the former residence of Cao Xueqin has been rebuilt and completed, as to whether it is open or when it is open to the public to be honest I live in this new scenic home, the southeast side of it should be the former residence, and so I have the opportunity to go to see tell you. This location is not in the original site, north to the east moved a few hundred meters [the original site in the seventh line magnet mouth station northeast entrance and exit and the approximate location of the exhaust, is the former Guangqumen Inner Street No. 207 courtyard].

Back to our topic of Reclining Buddha Temple, from the flower market to the east, across the iron windlass handle to the wide drainage gate there is a diagonal street, in the past has been called Reclining Buddha Temple Street. The Reclining Buddha Temple here has three halls, with the wooden Reclining Buddha in the middle hall. Beijing old people say that the Reclining Buddha can bless the people's peace, physical ailments you touch the Reclining Buddha will be well, headache touch head, foot pain touch feet. Therefore, the local residents often went to the Reclining Buddha Temple, where the jade factory was built at that time, and they also tacitly allowed the people who came to the temple, never stopping them. Until 1966 the four old broken, two big trucks pulled the big reclining Buddha away ...... the people have no more thoughts, from then on there is also sickness and disaster children have no support. It is said that this reclining Buddha was saved in the Fayuan Temple, but really did not see, perhaps sealed it.

To be honest, since I moved to Coral South Lane in Magzikou in 1970 and lived in this area for more than 52 years, I didn't know that there was a Reclining Buddha Temple here.

Now the slanting street is gone, the reclining Buddha Temple should be restored, it is rumored that now is not open to the public unit, this is also said ah, why ah? I'd like to take a walk someday to see it.

This Reclining Buddha Temple is a temple dedicated to Buddha Shakyamuni. There is a round hall with a standing Buddha in the middle, and a wooden reclining Buddha in the back hall, about 5 meters long, with 13 Buddhas standing around behind it, so it is called the Reclining Buddha Temple. The west corridor has an iron bell, for the Ming Dynasty after the Zhengde Wuchen (1508) cast. It is called Miaoyin Temple because the sound of the bell is loud and clear. Chongwen Reclining Buddha Temple was built in the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the thirty-first year of the Qianlong era (1766) of the Qing Dynasty.

Today is a very fruitful day, I wanted to know a little bit about the history of my area, but I didn't expect to know so much, it is really true that Chongwen is full of history. I will definitely learn more about the history of my area next time I travel.
