Qinghai is a place where big works can be produced

Zhao Yu interviews pastoralists in the Sanjiangyuan area

From Shanxi to Qinghai, Zhao Yu drove all the way back to the source along the Yellow River. He encountered many difficulties and hazards on the way, but the charm of the Yellow River source has been his motivation to come to the plateau. On this trip, he came to Qinghai for the writing of the "New Shanhaijing Series" of the "Yellow River Biography" planned by Qinghai People's Publishing House.

From July 30 to August 8, Zhao Yu went deep into the Yellow River source area and felt the beauty of Qinghai's ecology, humanity and folklore. ......8 On July 9, I had an exclusive interview with Zhao Yu in Xining, asking him to talk about Qinghai in his eyes and his love for the river source.

I: Mr. Zhao, you have a deep connection with Qinghai. What do you think is the deepest impression of Qinghai when you came to Qinghai again this time?

Zhao Yu: I have a deep affinity with Qinghai. I remember that in 2004, the China Wildlife Conservation Association and other organizations selected several writers to be the spokespersons of 13 critically endangered species of animals, including cranes, pheasants, musk, deer, long-armed monkeys, golden monkeys, Yangtse crocodiles, elephants, Tibetan antelopes, ibis, northeastern tigers, giant pandas, and Przewalski's gazelles, and I had the honor to be the spokesperson of Przewalski's gazelles. In the years after that, I came to Qinghai several times and visited many places in Qinghai, mostly just for pleasure.

On this trip, I went to Qinghai again to write the "Yellow River Biography" for the "New Shanhaijing Series" planned by Qinghai People's Publishing House. Because of the responsibility, I didn't dare to slacken off in this trip, and I got to know Qinghai, especially the Heyuan area, in a more in-depth way. During the ten days of the trip, accompanied by Dai Fawang, deputy editor-in-chief of Qinghai People's Publishing House, we went to Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. At the source of the Yellow River, Yoguzongli, I felt the enthusiasm of the local herdsmen and saw the many achievements of the construction of the Sanjiangyuan National Park.

This study tour experience was very valuable for me. As a writer who has been living in the middle reaches of the Yellow River for a long time, I felt a sense of happiness when I went to the source of the Yellow River, which was a feeling of return. At the source of the Yellow River, I saw the various contributions made by the local government to protect the source of the three rivers, the simple but happy life of the local people, and the ecological beauty of the source area of the three rivers.

I: You have been deeply involved in documentary literature for many years and have written many excellent works. What do you think is the biggest challenge for you in creating "The Yellow River Biography"?

Zhao Yu: As a documentary writer, it is not enough to be deeply moved, but you need to interview deeply in order to write excellent works. This trip to the Yellow River source area interviews, I met a lot of people, such as the source of the Yellow River "the first" owner to seek each, Quemalai County, Mado Township folks, and lead us into the source area of the cadres and people, as well as Dari County, more Zhi Bu and other people, have left a deep impression on me, their stories deeply touched me, these are These are my valuable creative materials. In addition, the beautiful scenery I saw in front of my eyes also shocked me immensely. For example, I have known the name of the Sea of Stars for a long time, and when I was young, I wondered what kind of a place could be described by such a name. On one day of the trip, when we climbed, out of breath, to the top of a high mountain near the Sea of Stars, we really understood that the name "Starry Night" was true to its name. At this point, I had to admire the wisdom of the ancient people who named this place during the Tang Dynasty. The Sea of Starry Night is really like the Milky Way where thousands of stars fall to earth. This is not a fantasy, but a reality.

I got a lot out of this visit, but strictly speaking, it wasn't deep enough. The culture and connotation of this land is far beyond what I can grasp in ten days. When I return, I will get to know the culture of Heyuan in a more in-depth and comprehensive way.

I: From ancient times to the present, there are many people who have written books for the Yellow River. What kind of Yellow River do you want to present in "Yellow River Biography"?

Zhao Yu: Indeed, there are many books written about the Yellow River. Literature is not afraid of repetition, so I am not afraid of the same subject matter, because our mother river, the Yellow River, has nurtured Chinese civilization for 5,000 years, and the culture it contains is thick and inexhaustible. For writers, the Yellow River is a lasting, eternal subject matter, you can continue to interpret it, write it. No matter from which angle you cut, you will create a different Yellow River. I want to present a whole area of the Yellow River in "The Yellow River Biography". On this trip to the source area of the Yellow River, I gained a lot of precious materials. As a writer in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, I have a relative understanding of the culture of the middle reaches of the Yellow River. After that, I will also go to the lower reaches of the Yellow River to understand the situation. I hope to present a different and readable "Yellow River Biography" for the general readers in the end.

I: Your previous works are mostly documentary literature, how do you think you can combine documentary literature with ecological literature?

Zhao Yu: I have been exposed to eco-literature before, and I agree with the birth and consolidation of eco-literature. I am willing to continue to write about eco-literature, and I still serve as the spokesperson of Przewalski's gazelle. I remember that when I learned about the Przewalski's gazelle, there were only 300 of them in existence and it was a critically endangered species. This trip to Sanjiangyuan, along the way I saw many wild animals, including yellow sheep, Tibetan wild asses, foxes ...... At the beginning, I felt very rare and rushed to take pictures. But shooting and shooting, we found that there were too many wild animals, they were relaxed and comfortable, and we did not shoot more. I also saw a lot of hawk stands in the Sanjiangyuan area, where many eagles settled down to destroy the rodents and rabbits, all of which showed me the results of the restoration of the ecological chain in the Sanjiangyuan area.

In the Sanjiangyuan area, we learned that it is very important that the national policy to protect Sanjiangyuan is compatible with the aspirations of the herders. Local herders would rather relocate several times and give up their pastures than support the implementation of the national policy, which means that the national policy to protect Sanjiangyuan and the people's natural psychology of loving Sanjiangyuan coincide, and they are very supportive of it.

Chinese literature has a tradition of chronicle, starting with The Records of the Grand Historian, and all dynasties have had to use the chronicle to record history. For example, even Journey to the West, which seems to be the least documentary to us, is actually documentary. The institutions in the sky are almost identical to those of the real dynasties, only written by the writers in the sky. Documentary is the tradition of Chinese writing, and today our country's top novels are all documentary in content. Therefore, ecological literature and documentary literature can be merged into one, and such writing will present a different style.

I: In recent years, the development of Qinghai literature has gradually stepped into the fast lane, what do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of the development of Qinghai literature?

Zhao Yu: Qinghai is a multi-ethnic region, and many writers create literary works that must carry the shadows of their own life sources and ethnicity. This ethnic color is important in a certain sense. But in a broad sense it is not broad enough, so it is more difficult for writers in Qinghai to break through this limitation and vision, and they should go out. But there are many good writers in Qinghai, such as the poet Changyao, whose works are first-class in the whole country and even in the world. There are also Yang Zhijun and Mei Zhuo, who are all very good. They write works that are actually difficult for many writers to accomplish. No matter how famous this writer is in the country, but when he really penetrates into Qinghai, he may not be able to write better than Qinghai writers.

Every work or writer in every region may have literary limitations, but I still believe that Qinghai is a region capable of producing great works. However, there are many requirements for the production of such big works, such as the writer's growth, pattern, persistent pursuit of literature, etc.

The development of Qinghai literature needs constant promotion. Take the "New Shanhaijing Series" planned by Qinghai People's Publishing House as an example, this activity invites famous writers from all over the country to create works, which is itself a kind of promotion for the development of Qinghai literature. This kind of activity will make some writers' eyes cast to Qinghai and strengthen the connection with Qinghai, which will naturally enhance the writers' group's attention to Qinghai.
