The real estate market is in a tricky state at the moment, and amid that uncertainty arrives season eight of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing
In a trailer released Monday, real estate brokers and series regulars Fredrik Eklund, 42, Steve Gold, 34, and Ryan Serhant, 34, all return, as does former star Luis D. Ortiz, who makes a triumphant return after three years away from the series.
'You don't know what my days are like,' a choked up real estate expert says during a kitchen discussion with his wife.
'Every day I get yelled at because the market is crashing and it's my fault. This market is so hard and it is so relentless,' continues as he struggles to wipe the tears from his eyes.
The couple welcomed a baby daughter, Zena, in February of this year.
After Serhant's unloading, the other castmembers are also seen struggling with the state of New York's high-end properties.
'The price is just too high,' Gold cautions over the phone.
In the following scene, Eklund begs his seller to lower her price to $5.5 million in order to find a buyer for her property.
The season eight trailer also reintroduces viewers to seller Luis D. Ortiz, who was a fixture on Million Dollar Listing New York from seasons two through five.
He played only a guest role in season 6, as he had decided to leave real estate and live a nomadic live outside the US, including sojourns in London, Paris, and Australia, before moving to Los Angeles in January 2018.
Since then, Ortiz has returned to the New York real estate market and seems to be loving it.
'I'm back,' he exclaims, throwing up the 'rock on' gesture.
But juxtaposed with footage of the Puerto Rican seller are tensions with his co-workers, who feel slighted following his surprise return.
Amid the turmoil of the real estate market and the interpersonal chaos of Ortiz's return, there are plenty of the flashy displays that have made the sellers so successful in New York's competitive market.
Serhant dresses up like a Revolutionary War-era general to help seal a deal, and he goes to the extreme of pasting a flyer to the asphalt of a busy street to be noticed.
He also sets up an ax throwing contest to generate buzz.
'I don't know anyone who's done an ax throwing competition in New York,' he tells the crowd.
It also wouldn't be Million Dollar Listing New York without a gratuitous display of real estate porn.
From gorgeous multi-million dollar apartments with their own indoor pools, to industrial chic showers featuring portholes, the group sell plenty of mouthwatering properties.
There're also plenty of lighthearted moments, like when Eklund notices that his seller has decked her apartment out with dozens of globes and disco balls.
'I do like to come home to... large balls,' she deadpans.
Million Dollar Listing returns Thursday, August 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The short clip features Serhant overcome with emotion as he confesses his anxieties about the state of the market to his then-pregnant wife, Emilia Bechrakis.
