Nature|The complete in vitro model of human embryonic development

Early in development, human embryos form a structure called a blastocyst. Two Chinese research teams have successfully generated human blastocyst-like structures from cells in culture dishes, providing a valuable model for advancing human embryology. Understanding early human embryonic development is critical to improving assisted reproduction techniques, preventing pregnancy failure, and preventing birth defects. However, research to study early development is limited by many factors.
