A few weeks ago I giddily told my husband that I declared this The Summer of Ice Cream. We live smack-dab in the middle of a wonderland of ice cream shops. We have several cute mom-and-pop-type places, local chains, and even a Dairy Queen, all within 15 minutes of our home. And I do not feel like we’ve been taking advantage of them!
“We don’t deserve this made-up holiday,” he blankly said back to me. (I swear he’s not always a buzzkill — just in the instances I choose to write about him!) He’s kind of right, though. We don’t talk much about calories or diets, and we never relate “guilt” with food, but we do live a decently sedentary lifestyle — aside from the occasional weekend hikes and daily dog walks. I hate when he’s right. So, I went in search of something that would be a compromise for both of us. And I found it at Costco, of course.
At Costco, I found this giant pack of 15 Mint Chocolate Chip Yasso Greek Yogurt Bars. For just $11! If you’re not familiar, a box of four is usually $5 — so you’re basically getting seven (seven!!!) extra bars for free.
Why do we “deserve” these Yasso bars? Aside from them being a great deal? Well, they’re just 100 calories each. And we’re both huge mint chocolate chip fanatics (is there anyone who isn’t?). Although they’re not pastel green, these things taste just like our favorite mint chocolate chip ice cream. They’re cold, minty, chocolate-y, and creamy. But they’re made of Greek yogurt! Plus, they get the thumbs up from one of my healthiest writers (she’s a nutritionist!). And they’re on a stick.
In closing, I hereby declare this The Summer of Yasso Bars!
Have you found any great frozen treats (at Costco or other mainstream grocery stores) that you think we should know about?
