On September 26, the opening ceremony of the first high-end PET / MR in Henan Province was held in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zheng University, marking a new era of molecular imaging diagnosis in the hospital's imaging examination.
PET, or positron emission computed tomography, and MR, or magnetic resonance imaging, are integrated PET/MR, which is the organic integration of positron emission computed tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging system (MR). PET/MR is the most advanced medical imaging technology that integrates PET molecular imaging with MR multiparametric functional imaging, and is known as the "crown jewel" in the field of molecular imaging.
"The biggest advantage of PET is that it can capture the tumor when it is very small, while MR can accurately analyze the specific location of the tumor, and the combination of the two can achieve the effect of 1+1>2." Han Xingmin, director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zheng University, introduced that this PET/MR is the most advanced medical imaging equipment for human functional metabolism imaging at the cellular-molecular level, and is known as the "crown jewel" in the field of molecular imaging.
More importantly, PET/MR can be used for whole-body examinations and the radiation dose is much less than PET/CT, which makes it more suitable for tumor screening in pediatric patients and high-risk groups.
"The introduction of this equipment makes the diagnosis of some difficult cases and early diagnosis of diseases possible, and lays the foundation for precise treatment, as well as widens the road for the recovery of tumor patients." Han Xingmin said that the hospital will take the opening and operation of the equipment as a new starting point, give full play to the advantages of cutting-edge equipment, continuously improve the level of treatment and service capacity, and provide more advanced molecular imaging examination, diagnosis and treatment services for the people of Henan.
It is understood that PET/MR has a wide range of clinical application prospects, mainly applicable to the three major fields of oncology, cardiovascular and neurological systems, with more accurate diagnosis and efficacy evaluation of brain tumors, upper abdominal tumors, pelvic tumors, pediatric tumors, bone and soft tissue diseases, and to achieve the diagnosis of neurological diseases without obvious structural changes such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy and functional encephalopathy. In addition, PET/MR is expected to become an important tool for tumor screening because of its high sensitivity and accuracy, and has significant advantages for microscopic lesions, occult lesions, and lesions with inconspicuous morphological features.
