7、The ancient city of Yanzhou

The ancient city of Yanzhou, formerly known as Baekamseong, is a majestic and spectacular military fortress built on the basis of the mountainous terrain, with cliffs to the south and the Prince River below as a natural barrier, and is currently the only well-preserved ancient Goguryeo fortress in China.

Due to the dangerous terrain, Yanzhou City has always been a must-attack place for soldiers, and the most famous one is the "Tang King's Eastern Expedition". According to historical records, in 643 A.D., the seventeenth year of Zhenguan, Goguryeo and Baekje attacked Silla, and Silla reported to the Tang Dynasty, and Li Shimin ordered Goguryeo to retreat, but Goguryeo refused to obey, obviously provoking the Tang Empire. In 645 A.D., the nineteenth year of the Zhenguan period, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, led a large army to conquer Goguryeo, and in May, he conquered Liaodong City and won a great victory.

In June of the same year, the Tang army took advantage of the situation to attack Baiyan City (now Yanzhou City), which was not able to be attacked for a long time because of its high walls and sufficient food. During the fierce battle, the right general was hit by an arrow, and Li Shimin personally sucked his blood. The general Xue Li was the first to fight, and he was unstoppable. When Sun Dayin, the lord of Baiyan City, saw the situation was not good, he had to send someone to surrender, and the Tang army took Baiyan City and renamed it as Yanzhou.
