When it comes to homemade birthday cakes, we've seen some downright hilarious and rather rude baking blunders be made.

From a mum who accidentally created an x-rated unicorn cake for her young daughter, to a naughty looking Hercules sweet treat.

But this latest cake gaffe might just take the crown.

A woman named Siobhan told her colleagues she was hoping to get a Mariah Carey-themed cake for her upcoming birthday, so they decided to surprise her with one.

Only, somewhere a long the way, there was clearly a bit of a misunderstanding.

While she did end up with a special birthday cake, it certainly didn't have everyone's favourite diva on it.

My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake. They misunderstood, and is the cake they made her instead. It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive.

Her relative wasted no time sharing the image on Twitter - where it has since gone viral.

She wrote: "My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake. They misunderstood, and this is the cake they made her instead. It's Marie Curie, looking very festive."

More than 172,000 people liked the tweet, with 36,000 people retweeting it.

Many thought the cake she was given was better than the one she asked for in the first place, while others thought the photo was a little intense.

That's the kind of cake you receive when you're being judged for not pursuing a career in science. I have never see a cake with such a haunting, judgemental stare.

Another commented: "It's so sweet because I bet they were thinking 'Marie Curie? Well if that's what she wants...'"

A third described it as a "happy accident".

A fourth added: "With apologies, this is so much better than a Mariah Carey cake."
