There are always some friends who are not very good at traveling saying to me: Old Fei, you have traveled to 95 countries, you are a rich man!
I always shake my head: I'm not rich; of course it costs money to travel, but if you're as playful as I am, it doesn't cost much to travel abroad.
They have expressed disbelief.
That's when I take one of my longest out-of-state trips and give them an example.
That is my wife and I two free trip, with 77 days to travel through 15 countries in Europe, the specific itinerary is: Beijing → Russia → Estonia → Latvia → Lithuania → Belarus → Poland → Czech Republic → Hungary → Romania → Bulgaria → Macedonia → Cyprus → Greece → Italy → Vatican → Beijing.
I said: All the expenses for the trip added up to $80,000.
Friends say: 80,000 for one person is not really high!
I smiled faintly: $80,000 was the entire cost of both my wife and I together.
They were just stunned - if you've ever been to Europe on a group tour and converted the cost you spent corresponding to the number of days, routes and countries, you should know how low this cost is for us.
I laughed and said: If you can play, you might be able to do it!
So, how do we do it?
Let me tell you the answer.
1, you need to learn to travel on your own.
Let's put it this way, if you are traveling with a group, then a single person of 40,000 yuan, no matter how you can not go through the above-mentioned 15 countries in Europe.
So, if you want to save money, you first need to learn to travel on your own, also called free travel.
Many people are aware of the benefits of self-guided travel.
For example, the freedom to be spontaneous - you can make your own decision to choose your favorite destination, or you can make your own decision to abandon the destination you don't want to go to at all.
For example, you can take an in-depth tour - this is the biggest difference between a group tour and a self-guided tour, the former is usually a walking tour; while the latter is the trip: amplifying the content and experience of walking, amplifying the opportunity and feeling of contacting or cutting into your own destination country or city.
Therefore, in Lao Fei's opinion, compared to the sky-rocketing self-guided travel, tourists with the group tour is more like being wrapped in a film in the tour.
There's another point that many people miss - according to Lao Fei: self-guided travel is an ability!
It means that you have the ability to take control of your trip, to take care of your own food, clothing, housing and transportation, and to solve all the problems you encounter during your trip on your own.
I don't like to travel with a group, I can afford to play free, that's why I never travel with a group.
2, you can prepare your own self-guided tour of the strategy.
Friends who have a good relationship with Lao Fei like to ask me for travel tips for many countries.
Because the old African strategy is all prepared with PPT, not only illustrated, and the depth and accuracy are very adequate, almost can be used as a collection.
If you don't believe me, I'll cut you a few pictures - from the travel guide I compiled.
However, I found that the vast majority of my friends were just bookmarking this wonderful guide, but couldn't really follow the guide I wrote to have a free trip.
The reason is actually very simple: if you can't prepare your own strategy, no strategy has been compiled, then what strategy is thrown to you, you still have no bottom in your heart and are confused.
Plus if my strategy is 20 days, and you only have 15 days, messing up instantly will not be.
And that's not all - where we are interested, perhaps, will be different.
So, no matter if you get the old non-strategy, or if you can download the strategy online, if you have never compiled a strategy yourself, you are still just a layman of self-guided tour.
That's not to say that the strategy that was brought in can't be used.
Rather, I would like to emphasize one point: only those who can prepare their own strategy can see at a glance whether the strategy is reliable or not, and whether they can use the whole thing or make slight modifications to set off.
In other words: the network world is full of travel tips, still can't change most of the people who travel with a group, into a free-range backpacker or self-driver.
3, learn to book cheap airline tickets.
As we all know, a big expense in overseas travel is airfare.
Therefore, getting a cheap airline ticket is crucial to controlling your spending on outbound travel.
Let's take an example - in the Chinese New Year 2019, my wife and kids and I drove to Australia for 14 days.
We planned this driving trip half a year in advance, because we booked tickets early and got round-trip tickets cheaper than usual by more than three thousand; so the airline tickets for the three of us together, basically saved all the travel expenses!
Please note: If you learn to use transit tickets and patiently search through various websites carefully, you will have a better chance of getting a cheap ticket.
For example, we flew from Beijing to Morocco to play self-drive, via Istanbul, Turkey.
And we flew from Beijing to Serbia to play self-drive, via Prague, Czech Republic - you may not even know how cheap it can be to fly from Prague to Belgrade on Air Serbia plus book in advance!
In addition, you have to learn to search for a red-eye flight - after all, you go to Europe to play with a group tour, there are many travel agencies to save money, but also let you take a red-eye flight.
I've traveled in Europe on flights that only cost 30 euros!
If you're luckier than I am, a €1 flight might be a hit!
4, a long trip outside of the country, you want to make sure to hit the whole trip from the transportation.
In terms of the 77-day 15-nation trip to Europe that my wife and I mentioned above, we took several flights, many cross-country trains, buses and cruises.
And that's just country-to-country traffic.
When staying in a particular country, you also have to fight the transportation between the various travel destinations - trains, buses, cruises, subways, buses; and even charter buses that are necessary for some special destinations.
This is one of the reasons why, as I mentioned earlier, you must be able to do the strategy yourself.
Because there is no strategy to beat the whole trip from transportation, it is all cheating strategy, or irresponsible strategy.
And if you can't compile a travel guide, that means you don't know how to beat the traffic either.
So, how can you tell if a certain strategy is reliable?
So, people who will not fight through the traffic, at least on the long line of foreign free travel, you simply can not play.
5, foreign free travel other elements of saving money
The four items above are the key to both supporting free travel abroad and saving money when traveling abroad.
In addition, I will also briefly discuss other money-saving elements of overseas trips.
One of them is to book a hotel, B&B or private house in advance.
As with airline tickets, the earlier you book this, the cheaper the price.
In addition, the hotel is as close as possible to the railway station or the scenic spot or the old town, while being good value for money. Hotel booking are to determine whether there is WIFI, whether the morning is included, whether luggage can be stored, whether 24-hour front desk, etc..
I especially like staying in the locals' own homes - not only is it cheap, but you can cook your own food.
Since you have to cook your own food, you will go to the local supermarket or food market to buy ingredients.
Believe me, this experience is nothing like just taking a card at an attraction.
Second, apply for your own visa.
You should know that you can check the official website of each country's embassy for detailed requirements for obtaining a visa for each country.
So, why don't you get your own visa?
If you entrust it to someone else, you not only need to prepare almost all the personal data as well, but also pay him an intermediary fee.
There are quite a few visas where the delegate just helped you get to the window and stand in line!
Third, bring a split pan!
If it is a long trip outside of China, I guess most Chinese people can't eat western food for a long time.
Eat bread, fries and fried chicken for days on end, and trust me, Chinese-made instant noodles will be your baby by this time!
Then bring a split pot, not only can you cook your own noodles, but you can also make some simple Chinese food.
This not only saves money, but it's also good for your Chinese stomach!
Bring some instant noodles, or go to a Chinese owned supermarket - trust me, just eat Western food for a week and walk into the supermarket and what you may not have cared about turns out to be something that will have your mouth watering!
6, the necessary explanation.
Some people may have questions: are you in a hurry to go to these 15 countries?
Well, not a particularly detailed walk, but not a walk in the park either.
For example, Russia we visited five cities, Cyprus we visited seven cities, Romania played very thoroughly; Italy trip concentrated on seven or eight travel destinations in the south, but such as Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, etc., we have been all before, so it is not in this trip.
Greece has played self-drive before, so it was just a simple mix in Athens.
Also, the reason there is only one post-Yugoslavian country in the itinerary is because we have traveled to all the other post-disintegration countries before.
I know this article is thrown out, the comment section may be someone to show off the rich: cut, you said half a day, is not a play poor travel?
We really are not playing poor travel - the representative food of each country have eaten, the local people's favorite beer I have also tasted respectively, visited the casino in Belarus, took a cruise ship in Naples, Italy ......
We have also stayed in very cheap 5-star hotels in several countries because we booked in advance.
Also, we never take our breakfast out of the hotel restaurant.
Also, in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia, I would like to see the luscious ballroom, but the leaders do not allow it!
The comment section will also have this show-off channel: don't you still have no money, that's why you bring the pot?! Doesn't it take time to cook your own food?
I can only answer this way: there are three reasons to bring a pot - to save money, to take care of your stomach, and to be like the locals and experience the daily life of the locals.
In other words, we have different views of travel and different concerns.
You don't even know how funny it would be to have someone hand you one of those little cards outside a small supermarket in Poland - I guarantee you've seen them in hotels in Chinese cities!
So, you and I don't have to set each other up at all with the way we like to travel.
I'm not opposed to group tours either - there is merit in them, they make travel dreams come true for people who are older and for people who can't or don't want to travel freely.
Why is an offshore trip not as costly as you might think?
In addition to the many money-saving techniques for free travel mentioned in this article, there are two other reasons.
When traveling in Europe, you will find that transportation costs are very low if you mainly use public transportation.
That's not all - although not all, many scenic spots in European countries, even those that are particularly famous or even national treasures, don't always have tickets.
I don't need to expand on this, do I? If you are always traveling in the country, "tickets" channel is a kind of style, should not be unclear.
